Bush put into action an attempt to ban equal rights for GLBT citizens by proposing to amend the constitution to disallow gays and lesbians from marrying. Here is how George W. Bush views our country's citizens in terms of marriage (thus in terms of equal rights):
This is not right. And you know it! Marriage and other rights should not be reserved for individuals of a certain race, religion, political affiliation, or sexual orientation. They must be given to everyone, or to no one at all. We need to all (gay and straight) show that gays and lesbians are not second-class citizens who deserve second-class rights.
